General and Preventive Dentistry
Mouth is the window of our body and a healthy mouth is essential for a healthy body. It is
recommended that everybody sees a dentist at least every six months for a check-up and a professional cleaning to maintain a healthy mouth.
When patients visit us for a cleaning, we provide them with the information they need to maintain a healthy smile. Our dental care team makes sure they detect and treat early forms of tooth decay in order to prevent serious dental complications from occurring in the future.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings
A tooth-coloured filling is a great option for patients who suffer from tooth decay and wish to retain the natural appearance of their teeth. Because they are white rather than silver,
tooth-coloured fillings make it nearly impossible for others to tell that you’ve had any dental work done. The composite resin reinforces tooth structure and insulates the tooth against extreme changes in temperature, which means that you will be able to enjoy your favourite beverages without pain or discomfort.
The tooth-coloured resin is first applied in layers, hardened using a high-intensity light, shaped to the exact contour of your tooth and it is polished to prevent premature wear or staining.
When placed in smaller cavities, tooth-coloured fillings usually last as long as silver fillings; for larger fillings, an inlay or onlay may be the best option.

Crowns
Dental crowns, also known as “caps,” are custom-fitted restorations designed to return strength and beauty to teeth that have become severely damaged.
To place a dental crown, the dentist first reduces the size of the damaged tooth to accommodate the new restoration, which must fit securely over the natural tooth. A mold is then made of the patient’s teeth and sent to the lab where the technician creates the crown according to the specifications. This process usually takes a couple of weeks to complete. During this time, the patient wears a temporary restoration created during their original appointment.
Due to the customized nature of the fabrication process, the “capped” tooth is virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding teeth. With proper care, a dental crown can last a long time.

Bridges
A fixed bridge is an excellent solution for gaps created by missing teeth. A bridge consists of two crowns connected by an artificial tooth. When the crowns are placed over the teeth adjacent to the gap, the artificial tooth fills in the empty space, helping to create a full, attractive smile. The bridge is held comfortably and securely in place by cement, so there is no need to worry that they will accidentally fall out.
In addition to improving your appearance and the structural integrity of your smile, bridges also reduce your chance of developing gum disease and bite problems, both of which often result from gaps left by missing teeth.

Full and Partial Dentures
Dentures enable people who have lost some or all of their teeth to once again smile with confidence. Dentures can make chewing and speaking easier, as well as eliminate the “collapsed” look caused by missing teeth. At our practice, we offer full and partial dentures to accommodate the needs of various patients.
Full Dentures
are designed for individuals who have no teeth remaining in their mouth. Conventional dentures are placed after a patient’s gums have healed following the extraction of any remaining teeth. Patients who are reluctant to be without teeth during the healing process can have their dentures placed immediately after the extraction of their remaining teeth.
Although dentures may initially make it difficult to eat certain foods and pronounce certain words, with a little practice, you will be able to enjoy most foods and have little trouble pronouncing even the most difficult words.
Partial Dentures
are an excellent option for people who wish to fill the spaces left by multiple missing teeth. Unlike full dentures, partial dentures can also be anchored in place by clasps or hidden devices called precision attachments. Partial dentures can eliminate discomfort associated with biting and chewing, as well as improve speech impediments caused by missing teeth and also provide the support necessary to prevent teeth from shifting and causing gum damage.
Partial dentures are composed of prosthetic teeth, usually plastic, set in pink or gum-coloured bases joined by a metal frame. These dentures are customized to match the size, shape, and color of your existing teeth to give you a full, natural looking smile.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are an excellent solution for patients who are embarrassed by gaps in their smile or unhappy about having to avoid certain foods for fear their dentures will become loose. A dental implant is a special, biocompatible fixture made of titanium alloy that is placed in the jaw and used to support restorations like artificial teeth, bridges, or dentures.
In addition to enhancing one’s appearance, dental implants can eliminate much of the discomfort associated with eating and even improve speech. Because dental implants are permanently fixed in the jaw, they will not accidentally fall out. Dental implants can therefore provide patients with peace of mind that removable teeth replacements cannot offer.
The entire dental implant process requires two or three visits over a period of three to six months. During the first visit, the implant is placed in the jaw. The post and replacement teeth are placed during subsequent visits.
Implant dentistry is increasing in popularity, with tens of thousands of the procedure being performed annually. If you are missing teeth or are no longer able to wear removable dentures, dental implants may be able to provide you with the confidence that comes from having a healthy, beautiful smile.

Sedation Dentistry
Many individuals are uneasy at the thought of visiting the dentist’s office. The sight and sound of the drills and other dental devices may provoke feelings of anxiety and distress. However, by staying away from the dentist and avoiding treatment, people will inevitably develop dental problems that will be exacerbated by the lack of professional care. In the end, patients will require more extensive treatment than if they had maintained regular dental care.
Thankfully, sedation dentistry enables many individuals to receive the care they need without the worry or discomfort they usually associate with the dentist. At our office, we use oral medications to ensure that our patients with dental anxiety are calm and comfortable throughout their entire appointment.
The medication usually takes effect about an hour after being ingested. Patients enter into a deep state of relaxation, during which time they can safely undergo dental treatment without fear or stress. We recommend that patients who receive sedation dentistry have someone with them to drive them home after their treatment is complete.

Endodontics
Endodontic therapy is a sequence of treatment for the pulp of a tooth whose end result is the elimination of infection and protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion. Root canals and their associated pulp chamber are the anatomical hollows within a tooth which are naturally inhabited by nerve tissue, blood vessels and a number of other cellular entities, whereas endodontic therapy includes the complete removal of these structures, the subsequent cleaning, shaping and decontamination of these hollows with the use of tiny files and irrigating solutions and the obturation, or filling, of the decontaminated root canals with an inert filling, such as gutta percha and a usually eugenol-based cement. After this procedure the tooth will be "dead", and if the infection is spread at apex - root end surgery is required.

Periodontal Treatment
At the smile clinics we care for your dental health and we allot ample time in caring for your gums since the gums support the teeth and the gums has to be healthy for your teeth to be healthy. This is often accomplished through non-surgical periodontal treatment, including scaling and root planing (a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins), followed by adjunctive therapy such as local delivery antimicrobials and host modulation, as needed on a case-by-case basis.
If you're diagnosed with periodontal disease, our Dentist may recommend periodontal surgery. Periodontal surgery is necessary when your Doctor determines that the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be repaired with non-surgical treatment. Following are the four types of surgical treatments most commonly prescribed:
Pocket Reduction Procedures
Your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth like a turtleneck around your neck. When you have periodontal disease, this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, forming "pockets" around the teeth.Over time, these pockets become deeper, providing a larger space for bacteria to live. As bacteria develop around the teeth, they can accumulate and advance under the gum tissue. These deep pockets collect even more bacteria, resulting in further bone and tissue loss. Eventually, if too much bone is lost, the teeth will need to be extracted. Generally pocket reduction surgery is recommended to reduce pockets that are pockets that are too deep to clean with daily at-home oral hygiene and a professional care routine. During this procedure, the gum tissue is gently moved away from your teeth and the disease-causing bacteria are removed and cleaned before securing the tissue into place with small micro-sutures. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bone are smoothed to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. This allows the gum tissue to better reattach to healthy bone.
Regenerative Treatment
-
These procedures can reverse some of the damage by regenerating lost bone and tissue.
-
During this procedure, your dentist folds back the gum tissue and removes the disease-causing bacteria. Membranes (filters), bone grafts or tissue- stimulating proteins can be used to encourage your body's natural ability to regenerate bone and tissue.
-
There are many options to enhance support for your teeth and to restore your bone to a healthy level. Your dentist will discuss your best options with you.
Crown Lengthening Treatment
During this procedure, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, to even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile. Your dentist may also recommend crown lengthening to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible. Perhaps your tooth is decayed, broken below the gum line, or has insufficient tooth structure for a restoration, such as a crown or bridge. Crown lengthening adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored. Whether you have crown lengthening to improve function or esthetics, patients often receive the benefits of both: a beautiful new smile and improved periodontal health - your keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.
Soft Tissue Grafts
Gums can recede for several reasons, including periodontal disease, physical trauma (brushing too hard, too often or with a hard brush), tooth position and aging. If gum recession is severe, some of the tooth's root will be exposed. This can make the tooth sensitive to hot or cold temperatures and more prone to root decay, or may create an appearance problem. Soft-tissue grafts are used to add more gum tissue to prevent further recession, cover the exposed root area, stop the sensitivity and improve the appearance of the tooth. Some people's gums are naturally very thin, which increases the likelihood they will recede. In these cases, a soft-tissue graft may be done to prevent problems in the future.

Bone Graft
The success of a dental implant, its ability to support a dental restoration, is very much dependent upon how much bone is available in the site where the implant is placed. There are lots of things that affect the bone volume including things like periodontal disease, trauma and infections and it is not unusual to open up a site in the mouth for implant placement and find out that some of the critical supporting bone is missing. At the Smile Clinics, We increase the height of bone and the width of bone. We fill in anatomical voids in bone thereby creating new bone and we can fill in all sorts of defects that develop when teeth are lost. We can even use grafting techniques to prevent the loss of bone in circumstances where bone would normally be lost like the extraction of a tooth.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Also called third molars, wisdom teeth usually make their first appearance in young adults between the ages of 15 to 25. Usually, an initial evaluation of the wisdom teeth should be performed between the ages of 16 and 19. Because most mouths are too small for these four additional molars, an extraction (removal) procedure is often necessary.
Removal of Wisdom tooth is important when the tooth have no room in the mouth to grow. Symptoms like pain, facial swelling or swelling in the gumline of the back tooth may indicate that the wisdom teeth have erupted and surfaced, and should be removed before they become impacted. At the Smile Clinics our Doctors extract your wisdom teeth without any discomfort to you. We extract all the four wisdom teeth under sedation so you do not experience any pain.

Teeth Whitening
Our teeth inevitably lose their natural white luster from the effects of aging, smoking, and the consumption of coffee, tea, and cola. However, thanks to advances in cosmetic dentistry, dental professionals can now improve the appearance of teeth that have become dull or discoloured. In order to help our patients develop whiter, brighter smiles, we provide the latest in-office and at-home teeth whitening solutions. Teeth whitening treatments are among the more popular cosmetic dental procedures performed today and can dramatically enhance the beauty of your smile in less than an hour.
ZOOM In Office Teeth Whitening
We proudly use the Zoom office teeth whitening system to help our patients look and feel their best. The first step of the treatment involves cleaning the teeth and coating the gums with a protective layer of white resin. Next, a whitening gel is applied to the teeth and activated by a special curing light. After the gel has taken effect, it is removed and the procedure is repeated until the patient achieves his or her desired visual improvement. The result of teeth whitening with the Zoom system is a wonderfully brighter smile that can be enjoyed for up to two years.
TAKE HOME WHITENING
Your lifestyle and the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking. Nothing freshens up your appearance like a whiter, bright smile. At the Smile Clinics we use Opalescence®, the first ADA accepted, syringe delivered, take-home bleaching gel! The patented formula has sticky, adhesive properties, which produce results in days rather than weeks!

Porcelain
Veneers
Rivaled in popularity perhaps only by teeth whitening, porcelain veneers are an excellent option for patients who desire an attractive, vibrant smile. Veneers are thin, porcelain laminates that are adhered to the front of teeth to effectively eliminate the appearance of stains, chips, cracks, and gaps. Veneers may even be used in place of braces for some people who require minor adjustments to their smile. Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to stain. They are an excellent investment in your smile.
Porcelain veneers are applied over a period of three visits. During your initial visit, the benefits as well as limitations of veneers are explained to you and a personalized treatment plan that is best suited for your needs is created by our Dentist. Upon your second visit, the Dentist will remove a small bit of enamel from your teeth in order to compensate for the added size of the veneers. This portion of the procedure is essentially painless; however, if you experience any discomfort you may choose to receive a local anesthetic. Our Dentist will then take an impression of your teeth and send it to a lab where your veneers will be custom crafted for a perfect fit. When you return to our office, your Doctor will adhere the veneers to your teeth with a bonding cement and apply a curing light to secure their placement.

Bonding
Dental bonding is a procedure that allows dentists to restore the appearance of chipped, stained, or broken teeth as well as close gaps between teeth. Many people who are interested in cosmetic dentistry find dental bonding to be a highly desirable treatment option because it takes less time to complete and is less expensive than other cosmetic procedures.
During a dental bonding procedure, your Doctor coats the damaged tooth with a composite resin material and then hardens the material with a special curing light. The Dentist completes the procedure by shaping the tooth and, finally, polishing it to produce a healthy sheen.

Contouring
Dental contouring is one of the more economical and convenient cosmetic dentistry options available to our patients. Contouring helps to create healthy, gorgeous smiles by correcting crooked, misshapen, or overlapping teeth. There are several ways to contour teeth; the actual process involves shaping irregular teeth until they produce a uniform, attractive smile. The subtle changes that contouring accomplishes can result in significant improvements in one’s appearance.
After teeth have been reshaped, dental bonding can be used to add the final touches that will achieve the desired look. Most patients can undergo dental contouring without anesthesia, which means that anyone bothered by the thought of needles can comfortably and conveniently experience the benefits of contouring. Another advantage is that contouring can often be performed in the course of a single visit, allowing patients to enjoy their brand new smile as soon as they leave our office.

Inlays
and Onlays
Inlays and onlays serve as aesthetically pleasing dental care options for patients who suffer from extensive tooth decay or damage. An inlay is used to repair damage that lies within the center of a tooth, whereas an onlay is used when the damage extends from the center of a tooth to one or more of the cusps (outer, pointed edges of a tooth). These custom crafted restorations are used when damage or decay is too substantial to be treated with a filling yet not extensive enough to require a crown.
Both inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain or even gold. During a patient’s initial visit to our office, your Doctor prepares the damaged tooth by removing decay or an existing silver filling. He then takes an impression of the tooth and sends it to a lab where a technician carefully crafts the restoration, which is designed to fit securely and comfortably on the patient’s tooth. Upon a second visit, your Doctor sets the restoration in place using a special bonding material to ensure its long-term stability.
Because inlays and onlays can be crafted from materials that closely resemble the color of natural teeth, they are nearly invisible when used to fill cavities. With proper care, an inlay or onlay can support damaged teeth for a long time.
